STORYLINE :

Kim Sun-woo is a cold, loyal, and efficient enforcer for a powerful crime boss named Kang, who owns a high-end hotel and runs an underground criminal empire. Sun-woo lives a disciplined and emotionless life, carrying out orders without hesitation or moral conflict. One day, Kang asks Sun-woo to do a personal favor: he suspects his much younger mistress, Hee-soo, of being unfaithful and instructs Sun-woo to follow her while he’s out of town. If she’s found cheating, he is to eliminate both her and the lover. Sun-woo follows Hee-soo and eventually catches her with a young man. But instead of following orders, something in Hee-soo’s vulnerability and quiet spirit causes Sun-woo to hesitate. He chooses mercy over murder, letting them go and reporting nothing back to Kang. Kang soon learns the truth and, feeling betrayed, orders Sun-woo to be captured and killed by his own men. Sun-woo narrowly escapes, severely wounded and left for dead. What follows is a bloody, personal vendetta. Sun-woo, once loyal to a fault, goes on a brutal quest for revenge against those who tried to kill him — including his former boss. Along the way, he faces betrayal, confrontations with rival gang members, and questions about why he risked everything for a moment of kindness. In the final confrontation, Sun-woo storms Kang’s luxurious restaurant, killing his former allies in a climactic and violent showdown. In the end, both Sun-woo and Kang fatally wound each other. The film closes with a silent, surreal scene where Sun-woo is back in the hotel lounge, imagining himself enjoying music and life — a moment that never was, a life that could have been. This reflective ending underscores the film’s title: "A Bittersweet Life" — a glimpse at love, humanity, and regret in a world ruled by violence and loyalty.
